HOMEBUYER EDUCATION
First-Time Homebuyer Seminar
The Homeownership Center helps homebuyers learn how to purchase and maintain a home. These Washington State homebuyer education seminars are the first step in purchasing a home. The seminars are free and open to the public, include information about the Homeownership Center mortgage programs, down payment assistance, and other loan programs. These seminars are accepted by all affordable housing loan programs as meeting or exceeding educational requirements.
HCNW Instructors have completed training and have agreed to adhere to standards which ensure:

Reservations Are Required For All Seminars
If you will be using any of the programs offered by the Homeownership Center to purchase your home, you must complete the Washington State First Time Homebuyer seminar. Many people get enough information at the seminar to successfully locate and finance a home of their own. Others may find they need additional assistance.
The Washington State Housing Finance Commission class requires pre-registration. If you're interested in a seminar, please contact us for assistance in locating a class that fits into your schedule.

- Seminars are at least five hours in length, covering all major aspects of the home buying process.
- Seminars are presented in an open, unbiased format
- Seminars use approved training materials and handouts
- Seminars are offered by certified instructors that have completed the House Key and Homebuyer Education Instructor training program
- No direct marketing or sales presentations may be given by the instructor or any guest speakers

Buying a home, especially for most first-time homebuyers, is dramatically different from any other kind of purchase. HCNW assists clients in understanding the home buying process on multiple points, including:
If you will be using any of the programs offered by the Homeownership Center to purchase your home, you must complete the orientation.
- Decision to purchase a home
- Selection criteria for a home, including size, price, amenities, neighborhood, accessibility to services, and financing options
- Issues arising during or affecting the period of homeownership, such as financing, refinancing, default, foreclosure, and other financial decisions
- Maintenance of a safe and healthy home
- Sale or other means of disposition of a home
- Ongoing financial management strategies for homeowners
- Preventing/resolving mortgage delinquency or default
- Reverse mortgage options
